Even though the exact prerequisites to get a massage therapy license vary from state to state. They all require completion of a formal education show and passing a state examination or the national certification examination for massage therapists. 3, Take additional courses. Continuing education is required by some states for licensed massage therapists. In these areas of the country, massage therapists are required to keep up with new techniques through approved education. These courses are called CEUs (Continuing Education Units). Many of these classes can now be taken online. Some of these classes might be titles like: Helping Clients to Trust Your Touch, Bodywork After Breast Cancer Surgery and Chair Massage Fundamentals.
